Online Audience Examples

Authentic Audience Is About Who, Not Where

I know what you're thinking. Should I make my students upload a video to YouTube? Post on their Twitter? Do I finally need to get on Tik Tok?

Take a deep breath. The answers to those questions will come later, after you answer this critical question: who is engaging with your students' work?

As teachers, we usually have a few responses ready for this: teachers, parents, and other students. And the school community can be a valuable source of feedback!

But let's think about your project. Put yourself in the shoes of your students. You've just completed this project, and you're so proud of your work! Who would you show it off to who has a genuine stake in what you've created? Here are a few examples.

The Local Community

Local newspapers in your area already have a wide audience. Here are some ways students have used that audience!

Local, State, or National Politicians

Young people are some of the greatest activists and advocates! Here is an example of students using their voice to influence politicians!

Experts

Thanks to Zoom, you can convene a panel of experts from all across the world! Who are some experts in the field of study for your project?

Online Communities

There are online communities for every field! Can you leverage them? If not, can you create your own online following around your students' work? Here is an example of a SLAM poetry competition that created a massive online following!
