MEET Mrs. Gillesby

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 3rd Grade! I am very excited to work with you and your child this year. I look forward to being a part of this successful, productive year and can't wait to get started. First, here's a bit about me...

I started my teaching career 27 years ago at the former Fairmont Elementary School. I began teaching 5th grade, then spent some years teaching science and math to 6th, 7th and 8th graders and now I am excited to be back for my ninth year-teaching 3rd graders at Bryant Webster. I went to the University of Colorado at Boulder and received a bachelor’s degree in biology and then a master’s in education with an emphasis in bilingual education from the University of Colorado at Denver.

In college, I spent time working for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama (where my mother is from and I have lots of family) and for C.A.T.I.E., an environmental agricultural research organization in Costa Rica. I am a Colorado native and I love swimming, reading, dancing, music, space and art. I treasure the time I spend with my husband, Axel; my 18-year old daughter, Charlotte; and 12-year-old son, Julian.

I am extremely passionate about teaching, inspiring and challenging children to love learning. I look forward to helping our 3rd graders become well-rounded people who are motivated to find their place in the world and to make it a better place along the way! I invite and encourage families to be a part of the learning experience in my class. Your child will have a great adventure in third grade.

¡Bienvenidos al 3° grado! ¡Estoy muy emocionada para trabajar con usted y su hijo/a este año! Estoy muy entusiasmada con el nuevo año escolar, y sé que sus estudiantes van a hacer cosas increíbles en los meses que vienen! En primer lugar, aquí hay un poco de mí ... 

Yo comencé mi carrera docente hace 27 años en la antigua Escuela Primaria Fairmont. Primero enseñe 5º grado, luego pasó algunos años enseñando ciencias y matemáticas a los estudiantes de 6º, 7º y 8º grado y estoy feliz de volver a enseñar mi noveno año en Bryant Webster. Tengo una licenciatura en biología de University of Colorado en Boulder y una maestría en educación, con énfasis en educación bilingüe, de University of Colorado en Denver.

Cuando cursaba sus estudios universitarios, yo trabajé para el Instituto de Investigación Tropical de Smithsonian en Panamá (de donde es mi madre y tengo mucha familia) y para C.A.T.I.E., una organización de investigación de agricultura medioambiental de Costa Rica. Soy oriunda de Colorado y me encanta practicar natación, leer, bailar, la música, el espacio y las artes. Valora mucho el tiempo que pasa con mi esposo Axel, mi hija Charlotte, de 18 años, y mi hijo Julian, de 12 años de edad.

Tengo pasión por la docencia y por inspirar y desafiar a los niños a que adquieran un amor por el aprendizaje. Invito y aliento a las familias a participar en la experiencia de aprendizaje de mi clase. Sus hijos tendrán una aventura increíble en tercer grado.
