Erica Bettis is a Tuscaloosa native and graduate of the University of Alabama. She is a master’s-prepared Registered Nurse and entrepreneur with professional experience spanning Veterans Affairs, Quality Management, Health Informatics, eldercare, and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Erica is the Founder and CEO of Doxa Care LLC and Will House Community & Residential Services LLC, organizations dedicated to building structured, compassionate, and sustainable models of care in Alabama. Her work centers on operational excellence, community impact, and the integration of preventive wellness into everyday life.
She is deeply committed to advancing the health and wellbeing of her family, friends, and community, believing that legacy is built through disciplined service and intentional leadership.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Erica enjoys spending time with her husband, Charles, their daughter, pets, and extended family and friends. She loves music, cooking, college football, and being outdoors.
Johnny R. Tice, DNP, MBA, MA, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CRNP, is the Facility Director of the Mary Starke Harper Geriatric Psychiatric Center. Dr. Tice is a dual certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with expertise that spans both clinical practice and leadership roles in higher education. Dr. Tice earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Alabama, Capstone College of Nursing, a Master of Arts from The University of Alabama, College of Human Environmental Sciences, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Samford University, Brock School of Business.
Rev. Cedric D. Royal MDiv. is a native of Hale County, and now reside in Tuscaloosa. Married for 21 years to Tonya Epps Royal, they have three girls and two grandchildren. He is the Pastor of the St. Paul MBC of Boligee, AL.
He is a graduate of Selma University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministry, a Master’s of Divinity in Theology from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University of Richmond, VA.
Reverend Royal is currently pursuing a PHD in Public Theology and Community Engagement at the Hampton School of Religion in Hampton, VA. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, family, and reading.
Dr. Teirdre Owens, a native of Aliceville, Alabama, currently serves as Deputy District Director for Terri A. Sewell, proudly representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. The district encompasses the historic civil rights cities of Alabama’s Black Belt, including Birmingham and Montgomery.
Dr. Owens previously served as a Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce for the 2020 Decennial Census, where she helped oversee efforts to ensure a complete and accurate count of all Alabamians. Her work supported fair representation and the equitable allocation of federal resources for communities across the state. She earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Management and her Master of Health Science from The University of Alabama. In 2022, she received her Doctor of Public Health from Samford University. Dr. Owens is a Certified Health Education Specialist through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
Dr. Owens and her husband, Deroderick, reside in Northport, Alabama, with their three children: Aubree, Deroderick Jr., and Dax. She is deeply committed to restoring and strengthening Alabama’s Black Belt. Dr. Owens believes that through collective faith, shared responsibility, and community commitment, meaningful and lasting growth can be achieved.
Latrisa Pugh Griffin is a Toddtown, AL native and graduate of The University of Alabama. Equipped with a Masters in Financial Planning, Latrisa believes that all families can create a legacy for their family by first establishing a strong financial foundation.
Since 2013, Latrisa has volunteered over 1,200 hours throughout Alabama and internationally to help improve financial literacy. In 2018, she founded Pugh Financial Coaching to become a personal guide to help individuals and families reach their financial goals. With her faith as her foundation, Latrisa is known best for her non-threatening approach to one of life’s most difficult subjects. In addition to coaching, she is also the author of Finding Freedom in Finances: A 21-Day Devotional and Finding Freedom: Annual Personal Budget Planner.
Latrisa lives in Tuscaloosa, AL with her husband Jonathan. When not coaching or writing, she can be found enjoying a great game of basketball or football!
