Plastic is made from fossil fuels, using energy and water to produce heat.
Plastic will still be here in hundreds of years (only a small percentage is recycled).
Plastic pollutes our waterways and oceans.
Plastic kills wildlife.
Plastic enters the food chain.
Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.
Plastic Free July provides resources and ideas to help you reduce single-use plastic waste everyday at home, work, school, and even at your local café.
SFCC and the SEALS Committee want to take this one step further! SFCC is encouraging all students to go "PLASTIC FREE IN TERM 3!" By making a small change, together we will collectively make a massive difference to our communities. Best of all, being apart of "PLASTIC FREE IN TERM 3!" will help you find great alternatives that become new habits forever.
Yep...That's right! We can now recycle soft plastics!
Soft plastics, the kind that can be scrunched into a ball, are among the biggest problems in the reducing waste. In fact, 8 out of 10 councils consider them the number one problem as they get caught in the recycling machinery.
The good news is these plastics can be recycled at many supermarkets. The bad news, as revealed in research done for National Recycling Week, is that only 47% of people know about the program!
