Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by the Magi's journey in Matthew 2:9-12, specifically the moment they followed the star to Jesus. Their faith reminds me that even on a broken path, trusting in God can lead to a positive outcome. Just as the Magi trusted God's guidance by following the star and heeding the angel's warning to not return to King Herod. I find that my own faith guides me through life's challenges.
I used crochet to create the piece, a skill taught to me by my great-aunt in Malta. The combination of double crochet and slip stitch patterns is a tangible connection to her, a cherished bond that I carry in my work. After completing the main piece, I used a sewing needle to neatly tie in the loose ends for a clean finish.
The background features a mustard yellow to represent the desert sand and a deep navy blue with white speckles for the starry sky. A bright yellow star is the focal point, positioned above Jesus. This vibrant star symbolises the brilliance of the newborn king, serving as a guiding light and a symbol of hope.
