Student Reflection
My artwork was inspired by Mary, knowing that a miracle was about to happen. I depicted her looking up at the star, while those around her wait in anticipation for something unexpected. I created the piece in the style of a stained glass window, with the star shining above Mary’s head, symbolising guidance, hope, and divine presence.
The inspiration for this work came from my Confirmation night. I felt nervous, but the Bishop reassured me that it was natural to feel that way. Towards the end of the ceremony, the Priest gave me an encouraging, gentle smile and my eyes were drawn to a stained glass window of Jesus, Mary’s son. Each time I looked at it, I unexpectedly began to cry. That moment felt deeply personal and sacred, filling me with awe and wonder.
Through this artwork, I wanted to capture the quiet reverence, hope and miracle of Mary’s story, while also reflecting the emotions I experienced that night. The stained glass style allowed me to show light and colour radiating from Mary and the star, creating a sense of holiness and inspiration. This piece represents both Mary’s faith and the spiritual journey I felt on my Confirmation night.
