Student Reflection
My artwork, titled ‘Heaven’s Gift’, is inspired by Matthew’s scripture, ‘The Birth of Christ’ (1:18–25). Through my artwork I wanted to show the special bond between Mary and Jesus, and how Mary had complete trust in God’s plan for her life.
When I look at my artwork, I think about Mary’s pure love and her deep faith in God. She trusted Him completely, even when she did not know what the future would hold. Her love was endless, and her connection with God was strong and unshakable.
In my picture, I showed Mary holding Jesus with tears of joy in her eyes. This expresses her happiness and the reward of her faith. I see Mary not only as the Mother of Jesus, but also as a mother to all of us, showing love and compassion to everyone. I chose the title ‘Heaven’s Gift’ because Jesus was not only a precious gift to Mary, but also God’s gift to the whole world.
For Mary’s clothing I used natural, simple colours to reflect what she may have really worn. The soft colours I used help to express the tenderness of this moment between a mother and her child.
