'Perseverance of Love'

Student Reflection

I have selected the scripture ‘The Journey to Bethlehem’ (Luke 2:1-5). My artwork shows Joseph and Mary travelling on their long journey to Bethlehem for the birth of their son. The donkey is carrying Mary, who is hot and tired. Joseph is walking beside his wife, comforting her through her pain. 

The donkey also looks exhausted from its long journey. Blue watercolours were used for the sky, as a symbol of Mary. She is wearing a white gown, which represents her purity. The path is a brown watercolour showing the desert path on which they travelled.  Mary and Joseph look as though they are nervous and scared about what lies ahead of them, but ready to face this challenge.
