Student Reflection
‘La Visita De Los Tres Magos’ is Spanish for ‘The Visit of the Three Magi’ (Matthew 2:9-12). I painted my artwork on a Cordobés hat to represent my Spanish heritage. The recent passing of my great-grandparents inspired me to honour their memory and make them proud by connecting their sacrifice, journey, and love with this Bible passage.
The story reminds me of how my great-grandparents immigrated from Spain to Australia in search of a better life. Like the Three Magi, who bravely ignored King Herod’s orders and chose a different path, my great-grandparents persevered and followed their own journey with courage.
The colours in my artwork also carry meaning: white represents King Herod’s castle, yellow symbolises a bright future, brown stands for the protection of the stable, and blue reflects the night sky. Using acrylic markers, I illustrated four stages: Herod sending the Magi to kill Jesus, the Magi following the star, the Magi giving gifts to Jesus, and finally the Magi choosing another way home.
The moral of this story is about seeking truth, persevering through challenges, and offering worship and gifts to God, reminders I have placed at the top of my hat.
