Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by Matthew 2:9-12, ‘The Visit of the Magi’. The Magi used ”priestly and kingly”, to describe the meaning of their gifts to Jesus. When Jesus grows older and learns that he is the Son of God he acts more kingly by being a leader and a guide for the followers of God and more priestly by spreading his faith and compassion, all the while being kind and caring.
I used acrylic paint for most of my painting and used gold leaf for the gold. For the Gold and Myrrh I used very blunt colours that were used a lot in ancient times such as brown and red. However, for the Frankincense, I decided to use a green instead, so that the colours wouldn’t clash. It also draws attention to the painting. The techniques I have used are shading and highlighting to show the depth and where the light is coming from.
My personal connection to the Christmas story is the gifts, because when I was born I was given a picture of my birth details and my baptismal candle. I cherish these gifts because they remind me of my connection to God.
