Student Reflection
My artwork, ‘Path of Promise… Pilgrimage to Bethlehem’, is based on the bible passage Luke 2:3-5. When reflecting on my artwork about Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem, I sketched the hills to represent the difficult journey they endured. Mary and Joseph were not alone, but guided gently through the unmerciful journey by the dove in the vast sky, representing the Holy Spirit. The houses were included because they represent the place of Christ's birth, the place where Mary and Joseph were heading. The shining star at the top of my artwork is included because it represents the shining light of God, watching over them every step of the way! They faced many challenges but these special signs in the sky helped them find their way and made their difficult journey a little easier and they knew they were never alone.
My artwork was created with oil pastel, acrylic and watercolour paints, pencil, chalk pastel, black pen, spray paint and gold pen. I have used a variety of techniques, including blending with tissue and splattering pen and paint to create the path and star. The blending of watercolour paints created the effect of the night sky over Bethlehem.
