Student Reflection
The Scripture passages I chose were, ‘The Birth of Jesus’ (Matthew 1:18-25) and ‘Visit of the Magi’ (Matthew 2: 9-12), because I wanted to show the love and joy that Mary would have felt on the night her baby boy was born. In my artwork I have incorporated the Star of Bethlehem flower that blooms when a mother is going to give birth and represents innocence, purity, honesty, hope and forgiveness, just like Mary showed not only at the birth of Jesus, but also throughout her whole life. I have added lots of flora to show the beauty of this important event.
I used different sized artline pens to create the look of calligraphy, which is unique and bold. I also used a tea bag wash to create a rustic look, emphasising the history of the story. Lead pencil was used to create shadowing and depth to my artwork. The various mediums used create a connection between Mary and God's creation, weaving the Holy Family together.
