Student Reflection
My artwork is based on Matthew 1:18-25, ‘The Birth of Jesus’. I named my artwork ‘Reflecting Christ's Light’, because the water is reflecting the image of the Holy Family and Christ’s light is being reflected out into the world, making his light even brighter. The reason I chose this scripture passage is because I have never seen a child being born but I believe that it is a true miracle. The Hebrew script translates as “He is Born”. I chose these colours to represent darkness and light - Jesus’ light entering into the world. The light is coming from the starlight which is shining brightly on the new born baby, Jesus.
I used charcoal and lead pencil because I wanted to create a black and white image. I blended with my finger to make the sky and I lightly blended the lead to make Mary, Joseph, the donkey and Jesus’ shadows. The pencil sketching technique allowed me to give detail and draw the viewer's attention to the Holy Family.
