My name is Leah Swinson, and this is my second year in the Dover-Sherborn Public Schools.
I am very excited to meet this new group of students!
I grew up in a small town on the North Shore of Massachusetts and attended my local K-12 public schools before graduating from Connecticut College. (Go Camels!) At Conn, I majored in History, focusing on Latin America, minored in Latin American Studies, and also earned a certificate in Community Action and Public Policy. Throughout my undergraduate career, I combined my interest in world history with community work in local public schools and practical learning experiences, including spending a semester abroad in Chile and Argentina.
Later, I earned my M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Lesley University. While completing my degree, I also entered a yearlong practicum at Newton North High School in Newton, MA as part of the Newton Teacher Residency. As part of this program, I spent a full year learning from veteran North teachers, building relationships with students, and developing instructional practices.
In addition to my experience in the Newton Teacher Residency Program, I also spent several years teaching in informal settings. I spent two years at the Boston Children's Museum teaching STEAM and culture programs, and spent many summers interning at museums and historical societies. I am excited to join a district that emphasizes enrichment opportunities for its students.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking & baking, and frequently visit my family on the beaches of the North Shore. I am also an avid reader and consumer of pop-culture, and I am always looking for new recommendations for books, tv shows, movies, and podcasts!
