Some exciting things that we learn and work on in third grade include:
SOMETHING NEW:
- Learn to play the recorder, perform with a chorus, learn keyboarding and use Chromebooks
READING:
- Continue to build our overall decoding skills by building our reading accuracy and fluency through Guided Reading and practice
- Build our understanding of phonics patterns and rules using Fundations
- Work on increasing our understanding of text and overall reading comprehension skills
WRITING:
- Work on narrative, expository and opinion writing using the Empowering Writers program
- Some of my favorite writing units: Castles, Service Animals, and Space, etc.
MATH:
- Continued work with the Everyday Math program focusing on fractions, multiplication/division, and area/perimeter

- Build automaticity with basic addition, subtraction and multiplication facts...plus we play math games!
HISTORY:
- History of Massachusetts, including learning about the Pilgrims, Wampanoags and the settlement of Massachusetts
- Field trip to Plimoth Plantation https://www.plimoth.org/
SCIENCE:
- Science units include: Motion and Matter and Birds...including hands-on experiments and projects
