Overview of Special Education Resource Room

The primary purpose of a resource pull-out classroom is to provide students with disabilities or learning challenges the targeted support they need to succeed in their academic and personal development—without removing them entirely from the general education setting.

The primary purpose of an in-class resource room is to provide students with disabilities or learning challenges the individualized support they need while remaining in the general education classroom—ensuring they can access the curriculum, participate alongside their peers, and build both academic and social skills within the least restrictive environment.

Each child receives the type and level of services best suited to their unique needs, as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP), which is designed to ensure equitable access and meaningful progress.

How is this determined? This is determined through the IEP process, which includes input from teachers, specialists, and families, along with data from assessments and classroom performance. Together, the IEP team identifies each child’s strengths, challenges, and goals to decide what services, supports, and accommodations are most appropriate.
