English III offers a survey of American literature from Native American folklore through the twenty-first century. Units on poetry, the novel, non-fiction, memoir, and the short story will be studied. Students will be required to complete a research and/or literary paper on a topic relating to American literature using the MLA/APA format adhering to the district’s policy on plagiarism. Coursework will also reinforce and extend critical reading and writing skills to prepare for state assessments and help prepare students for the SAT.
English III - Resource
This small-group version of English III provides targeted, explicit instruction and individualized support to help students access the ninth-grade English Language Arts curriculum and develop essential literacy skills. Students will engage with the same core texts, themes, and standards as English III while receiving additional scaffolding in reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, organization, and communication. Instruction will incorporate differentiated materials, modeling, guided practice, repeated opportunities to apply skills, and accommodations aligned with students’ IEPs. The course emphasizes building confidence, independence, and academic skills while preparing students for success in future English courses.
