If a student is absent from class for any reason the student must meet with or speak to the teacher (preferably that day, but within 24 hours) and must turn in all assignments that are due. The student is expected to turn in all class work and homework assignments on time. In addition, if a test or quiz is scheduled for that day, the student must make arrangements to take the during Office Hours that day. No extensions on due dates will be provided. These rules also apply if a student leaves a class early and/or arrives late due to an appointment, oversleeping, illness, behavior, etc. It is the student’s responsibility to get the assignments before leaving the class or to contact the teacher via E-mail that day/evening.
If a student is going on a trip during an unscheduled school vacation time, the student must get all of the work before leaving and must turn in all work on the day s/he returns. The student will also be expected to stay after school on the day s/he returns in order to update and review the work that was missed.
If a student is absent from school for the entire day, that student should contact the teacher to find out what was missed. The student must attend Office Hours on the day the student returns and must turn in assignments that were due, make up tests, etc. Makeup assignments cannot be given during class time. If a student knows about an assignment or a test being scheduled before being absent the student is responsible for taking the test and/or submitting the completed work as scheduled or on the day that the student returns.
If a student is absent from school for 1 day, the student will have 1 day to make up missing work.
If a student is absent from school for 2 days, the student will have 2 days to make up the missing work.
If a student is absent from school for 3 days, the student will have 3 days to make up the missing work.
If a student is absent from school for 4 or more days, the student should contact the teacher to get the assignments and make arrangements for due dates.
Remember, friends are not always the most reliable source of information. Dover High School’s policy for attendance, including tardiness, will be enforced (refer to the Student-Parent Handbook).
