Using stroke colour as an outline
Go to your colour swatch and change the colour to no colour which is the swatch with a redline through it and the framed swatch is the outline colour.
Use the polygon tool to create a road sign
Add more points to a star. Click on the star, draw it and then click again for a dialogue box to appear to amend how many points your shape has.
You can change radius 1 or 2 to change the shape.
Add a gradient, add colours
Double click the gradient tool to bring up the gradient box. You can choose the style and click on the spots on the bar to change colour and add more spots if wanted.

You will need the advanced toolbar for more options
Click on the shape tool and you will see more options
Choose the rounded rectangle tool
Draw a basic shape on the screen to play with the gradient options
You can select the object and pull in the corners to create a more rounded object
Then use the select tool to select the shape and widen the shape
You can change the stroke tool as well to give you more definition
Window >Stroke - choose the stroke window
In the stroke panel, click on the 3 lines to show more options
Stroke weight - is the thickness of the line
Cap options - change the appearance of the ends of the stroke (a continuous stroke is not affected by this only if a dash stroke is used)
Apply the gradient across the stroke

Use the eclipse shape
Create 3 stroke rings for your clock
Use the eye dropper to choose a shade from the base of the clock
1 x black ring - 4 point
1 x white ring - 4 point
1 x gradient chrome effect ring
1 filled circle for the face of the clock
Hands on the clock
Use the star shape with 3 points to make a triangle and then use the direct select to elongate the point of the triangle
Window > 3d Materials and I chose the Object tab and then extrude
Choose the materials tab and I chose Calcutta Marble from the materials tab
I used this for 3,6,9 and 12 clock positions.
For the other numbers I used the rounded oblong and applied the same effects

I used the rounded oblong in 2 point stroke and applied an extrude and chose an appropriate material
