Q: Can I be reimbursed for my travel costs to my community partner site (Uber/Lyft/mileage)?
A: Yes! As long as the following conditions are met:
We can only reimburse travel starting from Dominican to local San Rafael partner sites ( 3 mile radius/one way) - if choosing sites in Marin City/Novato, we can reimburse for mileage ONLY, but not Uber/Lyft costs.
Must go consistently throughout entire semester and log hours/impacts on GivePulse.
Must keep Uber/Lyft receipts to turn in at end of semester (ask your SL Faculty for SL Student Travel Reimbursement Form at end of semester)
We aim to reimburse you for as much of your cost as possible, but please know it can be limited by total amount of requests, as we have a fixed yearly budget.
Q: I am sick/there is a emergency and I can't make it to my community partner site, who should I contact?
A: Please contact your Community Partner Supervisor directly (make sure to have this info on your first shift).
DO NOT JUST --- NOT SHOW UP (they are counting on you and often do NOT have someone else to take your place)
Give as much notification as you can and arrange another time to make up your hours if possible.
Q: I have a test/homework due for another non-SL class, so, it's ok to skip my community partner shift, right?
A: No, your community engagement is as IMPORTANT as a test, homework assignment, job, etc., and is a core assignment of your SL class.
Q: I am enrolled in more than ONE SL course this semester. Can I work with the same community partner for all of them?
A: Depends on your SL course/partner.
For most SL courses, your faculty can work with you to pick ONE partner that is the best fit for your SL courses that semester (please reach out to them so they know you are in multiple SL courses).
For SL courses that have their community engagement scheduled during class time, you CANNOT use the same partner.
For students in nursing clincials, you can ONLY use your clinical site, as your partner site, if you are enrolled in SL: PHIL2109.1/2 (if you are in another SL course, you will need to pick a partner that is offered in that SL course).
Please note, for some SL courses, your faculty may have picked a specific partner/project that is unique to that course. If so, you may need to pick another partner for your other SL course(s) and is always at the discretion and agreement of both SL faculty.
