The Supervisor is an important support team member who provides observations and participates in candidate evaluation.
Supervisors can also provide candidates with CalTPA support.

The Mentor/Support Teacher is an important support team member that provides daily oversight and, during the candidate's supervised teaching semester, a minimum of 5 hours per week of Candidate support and guidance; participates in evaluation.
Mentor/Support Teachers provide candidates with CalTPA support.
Mentor/Support Teachers model teaching & provide opportunities for candidates to teach foundational literacy skills (see TPE 7).
Note: Candidates are expected to take & pass a commission-approved literacy performance assessment that includes a focus on foundational literacy skills & the additional cross cutting themes in literacy.
CTC requires all district-employed supervisors to complete an initial orientation including the program curriculum and effective supervision approaches. The Professional Development consists of an orientation addressing CalTPA, 21st Century Skills, roles and responsibilities, teaching and coaching methods, as well as instructional and inclusive strategies for all learners.

During student/intern teaching, single subject candidates are required to take Pedagogical Preparation II (EDU 5255) and are assigned to a content coach to provide support specific to the candidates' content area. Instructors provide a list of previous coaches if students need assistance identifying a content coach.
All content coaches are required to complete the Support Team Member Form.
