Overview of 2026-2027 CalTPAs

All candidates are required to pass CalTPAs (California Teacher Performance Assessments) before their recommendation for a preliminary credential. Multiple Subject & Single Subject Candidates. The CalTPA is completed through two cycles. Cycle 1 focuses on student engagement & supporting focus students through one lesson. Cycle 2 focuses on assessment-driven instruction & requires candidates to teach & video record a unit that includes multiple forms of assessment. Cycle 2 also requires candidates to plan either an extension or reteach lesson after analyzing assessment results. 

For education specialist (mild/moderate) and multiple subject candidates, Cycle 1 is the Math Performance Assessment and Cycle 2 is the Literacy Performance Assessment.
