Dr. Daniel Kraft

The Future of Health and Medicine: Where Can Technology Take Us?

Dr. Daniel Kraft will be presenting on “The Future of Health and Medicine: Where Can Technology Take Us?” on November 18 @ 12 Noon. Daniel Kraft is a Stanford and Harvard-trained physician-scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, and innovator. With over 25 years of experience in clinical practice, biomedical research and healthcare innovation, Kraft has served as faculty chair for Medicine at Singularity University since its inception in 2008, and is founder and chair of Exponential Medicine, a program that explores convergent, rapidly developing technologies and their potential in biomedicine and healthcare. Following undergraduate degrees from Brown University and medical school at Stanford, Daniel was Board Certified in both Internal Medicine & Pediatrics after completing a Harvard residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital & Boston Children's Hospital, and fellowships in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation at Stanford.

Dr. Robert Glennon

Our Future in a Warming, Water-Stressed World

Dr. Robert Glennon presented on “Our Future in a Warming, Water-Stressed World.” on Oct 24 @ 1 PM. Dr. Glennon is the regents professor and Morris K. Udall professor emeritus from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Robert Glennon is one of the nation's preeminent experts on water policy and law. Dr. Glennon serves as an advisor to governments, corporations, think tanks, law firms, and NGOs looking to solve serious challenges around water sustainability and planning. Dr. Glennon is the author of Unquenchable:  America's Water Crisis and What To Do About It, which has become a go-to resource for environmental policy stakeholders nationwide. Unquenchable received a Rachel Carson Book Award for Reporting on the Environment from the Society of Environmental Journalists. He is also the author of Water Follies:  Groundwater Pumping and the Fate of America's Fresh Waters. In 2014, Glennon and two co-authors collaborated with the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution to explore solutions to broken federal and state laws that are contributing to worsening water shortages in California and other Western states with their groundbreaking report, Shopping for Water:  How the Market Can Mitigate Water Shortages in the American West.

Creating a JEDI (Just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive) space on Earth and Beyond

Dr. Sian Proctor will be presenting on “Creating a JEDI (Just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive) space on Earth and Beyond” on 9/13/22 @ 2 PM. Dr. Sian Proctor is a geoscientist, explorer, space artist, and astronaut. She was the mission pilot for the SpaceX Inspiration4 all-civilian orbital mission. She is the first African American woman to pilot a spacecraft, the first African American commercial astronaut, and the first African American to paint in space. She is also one of The Explorer’s Club 50: Fifty People Changing the World. Her motto is called Space2inspire where she encourages people to use their unique, one-of-a-kind strengths, and passion to inspire those within their reach and beyond. She believes that we need to actively strive for a J.E.D.I. space: a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive space as we advance human spaceflight.

 Nobel Laureate  Dr. Leland Hartwell, 


STEAM Education 2022


Lee Hartwell, PhD, led a research team at the Genetics Department, University of Washington, from 1968 to 1997 studying the genetic control of cell division in yeast.  He was President and Director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center from 1997-2010. He received the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.  Currently, Dr. Hartwell does research in visual cognition and learning at Arizona State University, with a team of undergraduate students.

Other honors include the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award, the Gairdner Foundation International Award, the Alfred P. Sloan Award in cancer research, the Genetics Society Medal of Honor, and the Cal Tech distinguished alumni award.  He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Talitha Washington



Black revolution in applying data science to solve societal issues.

Dr. Talitha Washington is the Director of the Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative, a Professor of Mathematics at Clark Atlanta University, and the President-Elect of the Association for Women in Mathematics. As Director, she oversees and provides strategic direction of data science across Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College to increase the number of African Americans with expertise in data science. Most recently, Dr. Washington was a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Convergence Accelerator and was instrumental in building and establishing NSF's first HSI Program. She is the recipient of the 2019 BEYA STEM Innovator Award, the 2019 Outstanding Faculty Award from Howard University, and the 2020 NSF Director's Award for Superior Accomplishment. She is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and the Association for Women in Mathematics.

High Impact Practices: Undergraduate Research Experiences in STEAM education 2022


It is such a great pleasure to introduce Professor Hewlett who is the Executive Director/Principal Investigator for the Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (ccuri.us). Professor Hewlett is also the Co-PI for InnovATE BIO, the NSF Advanced Technological Education National Center for Biotechnology Education.

Professor Hewlett currently serves as the Director of Biotechnology/ Biomanufacturing at Finger Lakes Community College in NY. Professor Hewlett serves on the Editorial Board of the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science and the Editorial Board of The American Society of Cell Biology’s CBE Life Sciences Education journal. He serves on the Advisory Board for Rochester Institute of Technology’s Center for Bioscience Education and Technology (CBET) and is a member of the Steering Committee for the University of Georgia’s RCN-UBE Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences Network (CUREnet).
