Math OER Homework System
WAMAP (Washington Mathematics Assessment and Placement), predecessor to My Open Math/MOER, is a web-based mathematics assessment and course management platform. Its use is provided free to Washington State public educational institution students and instructors, but it is also available for everyone to use. This system is designed for mathematics, providing delivery of homework, quizzes, tests, practice tests, and diagnostics with rich mathematical content. Students can receive immediate feedback on algorithmically generated questions with numerical or algebraic expression answers.
Use began at MCCCD in 2012. We started researching it in 2010.
MyOpenMath is an online course management and assessment system for mathematics and other quantitative fields. MyOpenMath’s focus is providing rich algorithmically generated assessment to support the use of free, open textbooks like the ones listed on OpenTextBookStore.com.
MyOpenMath is a collaborative community of users. MyOpenMath.com provides managed hosting of the open source IMathAS online assessment software. Questions and pre-built courses are all created by faculty in the user community and shared with others in the spirit of openness. Experienced users provide peer-to-peer support through discussion forums.
MyOpenMath.com is operated by the non-profit organization MyOpenMath.
Course Marking
MCCCD was the first institution to provide options for students to search the class schedule for No-cost/Low-cost (<$40) materials which may include OER materials. The $40 designation was established by polling students to determine what they believed was an affordable and fair price for their learning materials.
The three definitions that will go into effect in the Spring 2024 are:
Open Educational Resources (OER)
Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching, and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or have an open license copyright that permits no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, retention, redistribution, and adaptation by others.
Low Textbook Cost (LTC)
The total cost of the required materials for this course is $40 or less. Some materials may be provided by the college and only be available while enrolled in the course.
Zero Textbook Cost
Zero-Textbook-Cost Class: The total cost of required online instructional materials for this "Z Class" is $0.
