All students attending the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School must study English throughout their five years of high school. The English curriculum delivered at the ALHCS aims to develop the core communication skills of reading, writing, speaking, viewing, listening and presenting. Specifically, the curriculum provides instruction in the different modes of written and oral expression, analytical reading, vocabulary, grammar/usage and media study. The English programme is designed to meet students’ individual needs and to help them acquire the effective critical thinking skills needed to function as global citizens.
There are three levels of English, CCSLC, CSEC and CAPE, taught in the department that caters to the academic needs of each student. Students are placed at a level most appropriate for them based on teacher recommendation, past and present academic performance and future goals.
