SOCIETY OF
MANUFACTURING ENGINEERS
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers S200 or SME-DLSU is a student chapter of SME USA. It is the home professional organization of the Manufacturing Engineering and Management (MEM) program of De La Salle University-Manila. The organization is focused on certain fields of specializations such as Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. Overall, the organization serves to aid MEM students as they become the next generation of innovators and Lasallian leaders in the Manufacturing, Mechatronics, and Biomedical industries.
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, SME, is a community united in helping to mold well-rounded engineers who are the forerunners in the advancement and development of the Philippine Manufacturing Industry.
Professional Development:
To provide the means for the technical and professional development of members by organizing plant visits, seminars, career talks, and company talks.
Academic Excellence:
To motivate students in achieving academic excellence through the provision of tutorials and reviewers and taking part in curriculum development.
Image Enhancement:
To provide a means to increase the prestige and public awareness of the manufacturing, mechatronics, and biomedical industries by organizing exhibits, competitions, and other promotional activities through partnerships with various academic and industrial institutions.
Special Activities Development:
To provide a means for the pursuit of special areas of interest such as sports and recreation, socio-civic relations, and religious activities.
How Good is Your SMEmory is a trivia-themed group competition that will serve as an avenue for students to take a break from their academics and relieve themselves from stress. The event is open to the entire MEM Community and will have participants group themselves into teams of 2 to 5. Teams will be competing against each other with the intention of creating a fun, learning environment that promotes camaraderie as participants communicate and collaborate with each other to win the game.
In line with its objective of molding dynamic and well-rounded Lasallian engineers, SME would like to present SMElectronics, a workshop that aims to strengthen and support the learnings of MEM students from their electronics-based courses such as BASELCI and MFINDLX. The single-day event will serve as an opportunity for students to go beyond their digital classrooms and see the applications of their lessons as they explore the ways electrical engineering principles are used within the manufacturing industry. It will feature an esteemed speaker who will be breaking down how electronics are used in the field of manufacturing and will be giving emphasis on the technologies of electronics in industrial automation.
Being, Making, Empowering is a career talk that aims to empower both the MEM-BME and the first batch of BME students by exploring career opportunities in the biomedical engineering field. The event will feature two distinguished biomedical engineers, who specialize in orthopedics and brain cancer diagnosis, as they share their experiences in research and industry – with focus on how they’ve built their careers based on their education. Through these testimonies, the event will give the biomedical engineering students more insight as to what kinds of opportunities are available to them after graduation and encourage them to finish their degrees.
