CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM IN SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
The CBPSME scholarships are for the pursuit of Master's and Doctoral degrees and Mathematics Education available to DOST-SEI scholar-graduates, graduate students with academic honors, and qualified science and mathematics faculty of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) and consortium member-universities.
OBJECTIVES
To improve the quality of science and mathematics education in the country; and
To accelerate the development of critical mass of experts in science and mathematics education.
Masters of Science in Teaching major in:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics
Full time: 2 years/6 terms
Part-time: 4 years/12 terms
Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education with specialization in:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics
Full time: 3 years/9 terms
Natural-born Filipino citizen;
Not more than 50 years old at the time of application;
In good health and of good moral character;
Pass the admission requirements for graduate studies at DLSU (or any of the NCGSME member-universities);
Have at least one year (MS) or two years (PhD) of teaching experience in science and mathematics; or
Have at least one (1) year teaching experience; or
Have graduated with academic honors; or
Graduated as DOST scholar
For private school and HEI employees:
allowed to study full-time for two years (MS) or three years (PhD)
For DepEd employees:
must have been in the service for at least five (5) years.
Not a recipient of other scholarships;
Who else may apply:
PhD graduate in a priority S&T program (scholar or non‑scholar) who intends to pursue a second PhD degree.
MS/PhD non‑scholar graduate (not S&T related) who intends to pursue a second MS/PhD degree.
Who may NO longer apply:
PhD graduate (scholar or non‑scholar) who intends to pursue another MS degree program.
MS graduate in a priority S&T program (scholar or non‑scholar) who intends to pursue a second MS degree.
University screens and evaluates the accomplished application form and other documentary requirements of the applicant.
University interviews short-listed applicants.
University endorses the list of potential qualifiers to SEI.
DOST-SEI validates eligibility of the potential qualifiers to the scholarship.
Additional Process for DepEd Teacher-Applicants
DOST-SEI endorses to DepEd the list of potential qualifiers who are teaching and non-teaching DepEd personnel with at least five (5) years in the service and with at least Very Satisfactory performance rating for the last two years per DepEd D.O. 68 s.2009.
DepEd issues potential-qualifier Certification re-Permit to go on Leave with Compensation.
DepEd endorses to DOST-SEI the list of qualified DepEd teaching and non-teaching personnel for final approval of the DOST Secretary.
Upon approval of the DOST Secretary, the list of awardees is final and unappealable.
DOST-SEI, through the Consortium Project Directors, sends the notice of award to the awardees.
The scholarship awardee shall:
enrolled in the required academic load per semester and study full-time/part-time in any of the identified training institutions
not be employed or practicing his/her profession while on scholarship; he/she must secure approval for official leave of absence, if employed.
execute a Scholarship Agreement with DOST-SEI.
be evaluated by his/her performance every school term based on established policies to determine his/her scholarship status.
rendered his/her service obligation in the Philippines after he/she finishes the MS/PhD degree, i.e. one year service for every year of scholarship.
refund the total amount of scholarship privileges received with interest for non-completion of his/her graduate program or failure to comply with the requirement of the scholarship program.
