AVID is a program that prepares students for potential careers and four-year college eligibility. At Emerson, AVID includes:
- Helping students become more successful in school
- Collaborating with and supporting other students
- Learning about and discussing current events and important teen issues
- Discovering different college and career options
- Participating in UCD student led tutorials
- Improving writing and reading skills
- Learning to study and take notes and stay organized
- Participating in school service projects
- Other activities to help you make your education more meaningful
AVID has a positive impact on students’ academic performance in school. AVID student goals include:
- Academic success in high school preparatory classes
- Successful completion of college eligibility requirements
Developing a growth mindset to make every day better than the day before
AVID students come in all types - but they all have these things in common:
- Average to high SBAC test scores
- A 2.0 - 3.5 GPA
- Need support to reach their college potential
- Desire and determination to be their best self
- Want help in organization, test taking, time management, or study skills
How do I take the AVID elective?
