What is IP-Addressing?

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.

An IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing.

Properties of IP-Addressing:

• A numeric address .
• It's an identifier for a computer or device on a network.
• Every device has to have an IP address for communication purpose.
• Consists of 2 parts : NETWORK ADDRESS and a HOST ADDRESS.
• Two type of IP version : IPv4 & IPv6.
