Sight Word List

Reading Practice-

- practice naming the letters

- practice correct letter formation (upper case and lower case)

- practice the sounds of the letters

- pick a letter in the alphabet and try to find things that start with that letter

- practice making 3 letter words

- read a story to your child- then have your child retell the story

- practice rhyming words- have your child tell you if 2 words rhyme

- practice sight words- have students tell you the word and use it in a sentence

- visit your library and have your child pick out books- fostering a love of reading at an early age is key!


Math Practice-

- practice naming the numbers

- practice correct number formation

- practice counting- count by 1's, 10's (2's and 5's are more difficult)

- practice simple addition (ex: 3+1- sums no greater than 10 to start)

- practice simple subtraction (ex: 3-1 sums of 1 digit only to start)

- practice counting items (1 to 1 correspondence)

- give your child 2 numbers- have your child tell you which one is bigger or smaller

- think of a number- have your child tell you 1 more and 1 less than that number

- practice identifying shapes throughout the house or in public
