Struggling with homework? Have you considered...
Sometimes homework can be an emotionally charged activity. There are times when students just need a break and can return to it with more clarity. Other times, students need another strategy. Here is something to consider... As a parent, you can read the problem, setup the problem, and solve the problem. Have your student then explain back to you the process of how you solved it. If the student can explain the process, then they understand the math. On the next problem, may you as the parent reads the problem, sets up the problem, but your student solves the problem. You can then release more control and you just read the problem, and your student sets up the problem and solves. Finally, at the end, all supports are taken away and the student reads, sets up, and solves the problem independently.
