Happy Thanksgiving
Greetings,
This time of year is about being extra thankful. I am thankful to be your child’s teacher. Every day I get lots of hugs and smiles. I get to help your child learn and grow. I am so thankful to be a kindergarten teacher.
I am also thankful that I was able to meet with all of you for conferences. Thank you for taking the time to come in so we could discuss your child’s progress. A few parents asked about art and music grades. I talked with both teachers and they said they would look into it and get back to me.
Recap of the Week
We talked about what we are thankful for. I was impressed with the list that the kids came up with. The students had fun making thankful turkeys. They also made turkey hats. I have a photo below. They are saying “Gobble, Gobble” in the photo.
Homework
I am sending home the December Family Project. Please return it the first week in December, so we can hang it up at school.

Week Twelve
Greetings,
It has been so nice to meet with you for conferences. I look forward to meeting with the rest of you on Monday. As the weather gets colder, please make sure to send coats, hats, and gloves to school with your child. We go outside each day for recess.
Recap of the Week
It was fun to see the ideas that the children came up with for the letters c and d this week. They did a really nice job journaling about things that begin with the letter of the day. In math, we continue to work on number writing and shapes.

An adult lunch costs $5.25- they can bring cash, check, or utilize their food service account
Money can be added to their food service account via the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus

Recap of the Week
We had so much fun celebrating the 50th day of kindergarten! We learned the Hand Jive Dance, painted juke boxes, wrote to 100 and drew pictures of what we think we will look like when we are 50.
Yesterday, we made octopuses with orange tentacles and orange ovals. We have been working on the numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9 in math. We also learned about different kinds of bugs this week.

Week Ten
Greetings,
The kids were super excited to cheer on our Huskie Volleyball team this morning.
Mrs. Roelike sent conference links out via email earlier this week. Please make sure to sign up for a conference time. Conferences are a great time to connect and share your child’s progress with you.
Recap of the Week
We worked on the letter Nn and CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words this week. Students really liked writing the words on their whiteboards. They also enjoyed making necklaces and finding letters in the noodle sensory bin.

Week Nine
Greetings,
Your child has a full folder today. Please make sure to empty the folder tonight. I sent home completed work, the November calendar, information about the 50th Day of Kindergarten, the November Reading Log and the November Family Project.
Recap of the Week
Students enjoyed learning about the lifecycle of a pumpkin. We worked on the letters Ff and Ii this week. They really liked playing with the feathers in the sensory bin. We also worked on blending and writing words such as map, tap, sap, sat, and pat. In math, we continue to work on number writing and counting.
Homework
Please help your child work on the UFLI homework page that was sent home today. I also sent home the November Family Project. The Family Project is due back on Tuesday, November 4th.

Week Eight
Greetings,
It feels good to get back into routine after our fall break. We’ve been learning about respect and what it looks like to be respectful. Ask your child one way they were respectful at school today.
Recap of the Week
We had a fun day learning about the letter P. Students were excited they could have pancakes for lunch today. We also had fun with pom poms in the sensory bin, painting peacocks, and push pin pumpkins.
Homework
We are excited to start our first week of UFLI homework. I will be sending these home each Thursday. The homework is a review of what we learned in class this week. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

A note from the office: A reminder that Kids Company is an option, but the Early Outs are a separate day that they may need to sign up for separately. Please check your schedule to confirm that you are signed up properly, if that is your plan.
Recap of the Week
Yesterday, we read the book Berry Song and went for a nature walk. The children enjoyed being outside. Today, we are working on the letter Tt. The kids were so excited when they realized that Tuesday begins with T. I love watching them make connections and get so excited about learning.

Please have students continue to work on their lunch number. They will start typing them in on Monday.

Week Six
Greetings,
We had an eventful morning with the power going out. We had fun learning with flashlights and doing phonemic awareness in the dark. The kids were fantastic during this time.
A reminder to send only water to school in your child’s water bottle. If they are having milk or juice for their cold lunch, please send it in a separate container. We’ve had a handful of spills in our classroom and some of them have been orange or red juice that stains the carpet.
Recap of the Week
It was a fun and busy week. Students enjoyed the homecoming dress up days. In reading, we are working on journaling and the letters Mm and Ss. In math, we continue to work on number writing and patterns. In social studies, we are learning about fire safety. The kids are so excited to have the fire truck visit our school tomorrow.
Homework
Yesterday, I sent home your child’s lunch number with a paper keypad that looks like the keypad we use in lunch. Please help your child practice typing in their number. They will start typing them in the lunchroom soon!

Week Five

Happy October! I am sending my email a day early because there are a lot of papers in your child’s BEE folder that I want you to be aware of.
October Calendar- There are homecoming dress up days for next week. We skipped the dress up day on Wednesday because it is photo day for our school. There are also letter dress up days. Tomorrow, students are invited to wear something that starts with the letter A. Some ideas include- animals, alphabet, apples, airplanes, etc. This is optional. We will be learning about the letter A the rest of the week.
Book Order- Book orders are optional. I have the October book order with a coupon for a free book if you spend $5.
Walk to Read Note- We will be starting Walk to Read on Monday, October 6th. There is more information on the note.
October Reading Log- Remember your child can fill in a pumpkin if you or a family member read to them or if they read to you.
October Family Project- Please help your child decorate the pumpkin. We will be hanging them on our classroom door.
Recap of the Week
We’ve started focusing on number writing in math. This week, we focused on the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. In language arts, we are working on syllables and nursery rhymes. We have also been reading some fall books.

Recap of the Week
What a busy week! We had so much fun at the Elephant and Piggie Play on Tuesday. The students did such a nice job being a good audience. There was a lot of singing and dancing. The kids were excited that we read some of the stories in class. They especially enjoyed the ice cream part of the play because we read the story earlier in the day.
Wednesday, the kids had so much fun at the Walk A Thon. They loved walking over the bridge and seeing all of the things in nature, especially the butterflies. They also loved playing at the big park.
Today, we learned all about apples. We painted with apples, read about apples and sang about apples. Tomorrow we will learn about the parts of an apple and taste test different kinds of apples.

Recap of the Week
On Monday, we celebrated Dot day. Students made beautiful creations. We had a big week with academics. We started our Wonder’s curriculum, UFLI, and Heggerty. Students have been doing well with our lessons. Students were very excited to use ipads this week. They get to use them for 10 minutes during our center time. In math, we continue to work on numbers 0-5. Students have been drawing representations of the numbers in their math books. Today, we went on an adventure to the STEAM room. The students were so excited to explore and learn there.

Week Two
Greetings,
We had our first fire drill this morning. The students did a fantastic job and were very brave. A few kids were a little scared of the sound, but calmed down when we were back in our classroom after the drill. We talked about how Mrs. Sauerer has two jobs. My first job is to keep them safe. My second job is to help them learn. We will learn more about fire safety in October.

This week, we’ve been working on writing our name. We started our math workbook. We’ve been working on groups and numbers 1-5. We have started working on letter names and sounds. We have been talking about kindness this week.

Week One
Greetings,
I hope this update finds you well. It has been so fun getting to know your child. I will be sending a weekly email giving updates. I typically send it on Thursday after school. If you have questions about anything, please feel free to contact me.
Recap of the Week
On Tuesday, we learned about our new friends and school routines. We read some fun stories. The kids really enjoyed Brown Bear. Wednesday, we read about how to be a “Bucket Filler.” The students enjoyed learning ways to fill people’s buckets. They also did their first sheet with cutting and gluing. Today, the kids were so excited to read about Pete the Cat. We read a couple of stories and then Pete left us a scavenger hunt throughout our school. At the end of the hunt, Pete (a stuffed animal) was waiting in our classroom and had coloring sheets for us.
Students also started earning “Puppy Paw/Huskie Hero” slips. They are small purple slips of paper with a Huskie on the front. I write a message on the back about how they earned the puppy paw. They were so excited for these!
Homework
The crayon coloring sheet that was handed out at Entrance Conferences is due on Monday, September 8th. The crayons that have been turned in already, look amazing!

Earlier this week, I sent home a half sheet of paper about lunch for our field trip on Tuesday, September 23rd. If your child is bringing lunch from home, please fill out the form and return it to school. If it isn’t returned, I will assume that they are having a school bagged lunch that day.

All About Mrs. Sauerer
Welcome! I am so excited for this school year. I LOVE teaching kindergarten! This will be my thirteenth year teaching kindergarten in The Albany School District! I am a 2007 graduate of Albany High School. I attended St. Cloud State University for Elementary Education. I am licensed in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. I graduated in May 2020, with my Masters in Education from Southwest Minnesota State University.
My husband, Paul and I enjoy spending time with our daughter, Elizabeth and our son, Charlie. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, traveling, and being outdoors.
I strive to create a caring environment for students to learn. I love hands-on learning and celebrating successes of the students. I am a strong supporter of purposeful play. I also believe in positive praise. We are going to have a great school year!
