Get to Know Ms. Abraham’s Classroom!
BEE Folders:
Your child has a daily folder, a BEE folder. Please have your child return his/her folder daily for any projects or papers that may need to come home. Inside you will find helpful resource pages.
Birthdays:
We love to celebrate birthdays and half-birthdays! When your child’s special day arrives, we will celebrate in the classroom with singing, a birthday crown, and as a class we will make a special birthday journal for your child.
Breakfast:
We will eat breakfast together as a class at 8:15 in the cafeteria each morning. Breakfast is free for all students.
Water Bottle:
Your child may bring a water bottle to school to use throughout the day. Please make sure to label. Your child will bring this home each day for a good cleaning!
Extra Clothes:
On occasion, something might occur that makes your child’s clothes unwearable (accident, spilled milk, snowy weather, etc). Because it is more comfortable to change into familiar clothing, you may choose to keep a change of clothes in your child’s cubby. Just send an outfit in a labeled gallon-size baggie. We will send this home at the end of the year.
Medications/Illness:
As a teacher, I can not administer medication. Please check in with Ms. Baelie in the Health Office if your child needs any medications. If your child is not feeling well we will have Ms. Baelie help to determine whether or not your child should stay at school. Please remember, children MUST stay home for 24 hours after a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Monthly Reading Log:
Every month, a reading log will be sent home with your child in their folder. Every time you read to or with your child, color in one icon. The goal is to create a positive experience listening to reading and eventually reading independently. Talk to your child about what you are reading. Who are the characters? What happens in the book? Retell the story together. Please fill out the reading log and return it at the end of each month.
Communication:
I like to keep everyone informed of our classroom happenings with a monthly calendar, emails home, as well as posting updates and photos on our classroom website. A link to the website is in the staff directory. I will also share a link in an email.
Please feel free to communicate with me in your preferred method. I check email daily when in school and will return messages as soon as I can. Phone calls can be a challenge with the class in session, but I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Absences/Changes in Transportation:
If your child will be gone or have any change in transportation, please contact Kelsey Thelen in the office.
Classroom Management:
As a class, we will develop our classroom expectations for the year. I like to focus on respect. We will discuss why this is important and practice these expectations often throughout the school year. I use positive reinforcement in our classroom and redirection when needed. I will model expected behavior and use reminders as to how the desired behavior should look and sound. Children may need gentle reminders from an adult when appropriate behavior is not displayed or be asked to “sit and watch” (this means the child will momentarily sit and watch the expected behavior. The child will then rejoin the group to fully participate with appropriate behavior).
Filling Our Bucket:
When our classroom works together to model the expected behaviors in school, we will earn a paw and work toward filling our classroom “bucket.” When the bucket is full we will have a simple class celebration. The students will help choose this celebration and you will be notified by email that we “filled our bucket!”
Toys:
Please help your child leave his/her toys at home. We have lots of activities and materials to keep us busy during the day. We don’t want special items to get lost or broken!
I am looking forward to working with you to create a positive kindergarten learning experience for your child.
