Meet our Fifth Grade Buddies!

Our buddies have joined us for an activity a couple of times already this school year.  We get so excited to see them, learn from them, and show them our learning.  Today, Nov 3rd, they showed us a project they have been working on and then joined us for some free choice time.  We are so grateful to have a school environment that supports building positive relationships!

Happy Halloween!

Thank you to all of the adults who volunteered to help with our Halloween Stations on Halloween morning.  We has so much fun dressing up in our costumes, presenting a poem to our guest, and exploring all of the stations.  We had eyeball bounce, play dough halloween faces, designing treat bags, witch hat ring toss, and a spider relay.  Ask your child to tell you the witch poem.  :)

Apple Tasting

After reading about Johnny Appleseed, the life cycle of an apple, all about apple orchards, we had a chance to taste some different apples today.  Each student organized their own response sheet color a red, green, and yellow apple.  After tasting each apple, each filled in the emoji face to match how much he/she liked the apples.

Walk-a-thon

Our students enjoyed the walk-a-thon.  It was a good day, not too hot with a nice breeze to be out and walking.  We also got some bonus time on the playground.  Our PTO thanks all of the families for donations.

Homecoming Readers

We had two of the senior ambassadors for homecoming visit our classroom.  Carter Schwalbe, and Caleb Abraham (my son) each read a book to us.  We also got to ask them a couple of questions about the high school.

Name Rockets

Each student choose the number squares needed to build his/her name on a rocket.  We assembled the paper rocket, identified the letters needed, were so excited to hang them in our hallway blasting off.

Letter Camp

We've been having a great time learning about letters and sounds with letter camp! Each day we learn about how our mouth, voice box, and air make the letter sound, we identify the upper and lower case letter, we learn the American Sign Language sign for each letter, we explore words that begin with that letter sound and participate if stations about that letter.  Ask your child to model how we say the letter name, sound, and sign for letters.  Our class is so good at finding the letter in print around our classroom and in spoken words.

Bucket Fillers

Our class has been learning about being bucket fillers.  We began by reading How Full Is Your Bucket?  Ask your child to tell you how the main character, Felix, learns about everyone's invisible bucket and how it gets emptied or filled.  In our classroom we are striving to be bucket fillers in the way that we treat others, talk to others, and work with others.  As a classroom we earn bucket fillers for our classroom bucket when we all work cooperatively, show respect in different areas of our school, or get complimented by another adult for our overall classroom behavior.  Our class is working as a team to fill this bucket and earn a class celebration.

Pete The Cat

Today we read about Pete the Cat and his school shoes.  Pete left us a little note and sent us on a scavenger hunt around the school. Along the way we learned about the location of different classrooms and important areas in the school.  We also met the people who work in these areas (office, health office, gym, cafeteria, music room, art room, library etc).   The students were so excited you are likely to hear all about it.  Pete did leave us some coloring sheets of himself.

Welcome!

You found our class blog.  I will add updates here about things that are happening in our classroom.
