The Albany Junior High Football Program consists of students in the 7th & 8th grade at Albany Area Middle School. The emphasis at this level is on safety, participation, fundamentals, and fun! The coaches will teach the basic fundamentals of the great game of Football to each player in a positive and supportive environment. Safety will be stressed from the beginning, including incorporating the “Heads Up” tackling techniques that are taught consistently throughout the entire Albany Football Program.
In addition, all players at this level play equally so as to promote player development and improvement throughout the course of the season. These players will have an exciting schedule that consists of 5-6 games during the course of the Fall. (the current schedule can be accessed under the “Football Schedule” tab on this site).
The season is culminated by the annual “Pumpkin Bowl” under the lights at Michael Field! The players are divided into two teams and introduced individually prior to kickoff so they can see what it feels like to play under the “Friday Night Lights” when they are older. Complete with announcers, officials, and the Middle School Pep Band, this is just a great game night experience that is usually followed with a Middle School Dance/Fun Night!
In addition to the games, the players will participate in a “Skittles” in-house series of games in which the players are divided equally into teams and issued colorful jerseys. These are fun afternoons and the coaches will “Coach-on-the-run” and keep the emphasis on fun at the same time.
