What We're Doing in Class

Students will be participating in 4 science units this school year:

7th Grade Science Curriculum:

District 65 has officially adopted OpenSciEd as the new curriculum for middle school science students! The OpenSciEd curriculum is inquiry based with students using the science and engineering practices to investigate questions and solve problems. Students drive the learning and investigations while the teacher's role is to guide students in the right direction as they explore. OpenSciEd is different from other science curriculum resources as the teacher's role is to facilitate student planned investigations and discussions rather than giving away the science by telling students "what is right." This curriculum equips our students with "scientist skills" that will prepare them for high school and beyond! Please click the button below to find out more about the OpenSciEd Curriculum.

Current Unit:

We are currently working on the 7.1 Chemical Reactions and Matter OpenSciEd unit! Students have been introduced to a "bath orb" phenomenon that they are working together as a class to investigate. Our unit 7.1 question is: "How can we make something new that was not there before"? Together we will discover the reasoning behind why a bath orb "disappears" and creates fizzing bubbles when placed in water.
