EUREKA: Core Curriculum
Eureka Math® is a math program designed to advance equity in the math classroom by helping students build enduring math knowledge. Numbers should add up to more than the right answer. They should inspire aha moments and joyful connections. The goal is to set a new standard for rigor, coherence, and focus in the classroom so students gain a deeper understanding of the why behind the numbers, all while making math more enjoyable to learn and teach.
The materials linked below were adapted by District 287 teachers based on the those provided by EMBARC Online and other users around the country. They meet the academic standards associated with each grade level. Additional links are available for further exploration.
Start with WHY: Please listen to this podcast from Gholdy Muhammad on Cultivating Genius as time permits. We can help our students develop math skills by helping them develop their identity, intellect and criticality. It is vitally important to be sure we can explain to students WHY they are learning math, HOW it can help them, and WHAT they want to do with that knowledge in the future. This will open the door to be able to set high expectations for skill attainment.

MATH IN FOCUS: Core curriculum option
Math in Focus is an alternative comprehensive curriculum option based on Singapore math, which uses problem-solving as the basis for building skills, and is structured on a progression from concrete–pictorial–abstract learning. It is most effective when done consistently through each grade level, and includes textbooks, workbooks and online supplementary materials. There are skill-building reviews at the end of each unit, which need review of previous lessons to recall the context of the activities.

SUPPLEMENTAL and INTERVENTIONS
IXL
IXL is a practice site designed by grade level to work on specific skills and practice what has been introduced or learned. It not a comprehensive curriculum, so should be used in support of the primary class instruction. It is intended primarily for students in grades K-8, but can be used at higher levels if necessary. Reports can be pulled to show progress and certificates printed to engage and motivate students on their progress
To request a teacher account, fill in Request for curriculum support, and choose IXL in for Teacher account needed. We do ask that you submit the IXL Student account request for student accounts so that we can ensure they do not already have an account in the system.

Spring Math
Spring Math is a unique assessment and intervention tool for math in Grades K-8. The way it works is: students take a set of short, timed “screener” assessments on three or four math topics in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. When teachers enter student results from the screeners, Spring Math generates targeted classwide and individual weekly intervention plans, designed to be implemented with students in 15 minutes per day. Each week, teachers enter students’ scores on that week’s work, and Spring Math generates the next targeted intervention. This goal is to fill gaps in understanding and ensure mastery in order to bring students up to grade-level performance.
