What is your exact title?
I am an Registered Nurse (RN) psychotherapist. I use this protected title under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). I am registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and my registration number is 0304956.
RN psychotherapists are uniquely qualified through their education, experience and skill, to provide therapeutic psychotherapy. We are dedicated to help improve mental wellness and offer you a truly specialized experience throughout your journey.
Is RN Psychotherapy covered by my insurance benefits?
Some insurance providers will cover RN psychotherapy services and alternatively some insurance providers will cover these services under private nursing benefits. Please feel free to connect with me to discuss the best way to approach your insurance provider with questions about coverage.
Some businesses offer their employees a Health Spending Account (HSA). The idea behind a HSA is to allow employees greater flexibility to choose where they spend their benefits. For example, one person chooses to spend a portion of their HSA money on a gym club membership, another uses their HSA to allow for therapy sessions. Generally, HSA funds are easier to access than insurance benefits and often only require you to submit proof of payment to obtain reimbursement.
You will be given a receipt after payment is received to send to your insurance company.
What if I can’t make my appointment?
Your appointment time is set aside for you, however if you need to cancel an appointment please do so with as much notice as possible. Less then 24hrs notice may result in a cancellation fee of up to 50% of your appointment.
What type of therapist should I see?
The one you feel most comfortable with! Take advantage of the free 15 minute consultation to explore who you connect with. This time you take to "shop around" can provide you with information about how you and the therapist might relate to one another. Go with your gut! And if you start out and it isn't the right fit, don't hesitate to start again. Nothng is lost, it is a process and might take a bit of time to sort out.
Here are a few signs to look for in a good therapeutic relationship:
You feel heard and understood,
You don’t feel ashamed or judged,
You feel empowered,
You are challenged in a productive way, and
You can give each other feedback.
Your first session will either be in person at our office or online through a secure platform. Confidentiality will be discussed, as it is important that you feel safe and secure opening up.
The first session will be an opportunity for you to get to know your therapist and discuss your needs and symptoms. You will also work on identifying your goals and discussing the reasons for starting therapy. This session may include a family history or past events that have led to what you are experiencing in the present. Together we will talk about direction and treatment recommendations.
Therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes at a rate of $150 (no HST is charged) payable by credit card, cash or e-transfer at the end of each session. The fee covers the duration of the session as well as preparation time, record keeping, business expenses and professional development.
I offer a limited number of sliding scale spaces; please contact me to discuss sliding scale availability.
