Family and Consumer Science
ATTENTION PARENTS:
7th and 8th grade students enrolled in Family and Consumer Science will attend my class every day for a semester. We hope to cover many aspects of the FCS curriculum, which you can review on the District Website.
We will try to fit in as many food labs as time and budget allows. If a student misses a food lab they are required to make up the lab at home and cleanup their dishes and kitchen. A note from home will count as a grade. They will have one week to complete the lab and bring in the note. Each food lab counts as two grades; one for basic cooking procedures and finished product and the other for the unit cleanup. Food labs are a group effort and promote sharing duties and working together.
Please let me know in writing, if your child has any food allergies, as all students are expected to at least taste all lab products.
Each student will create at least 2 sewing projects during the semester. The fabric and patterns for these projects can be purchased locally or sewing kits can be ordered through the FCS department. Sewing projects must be completed in class. The students will have an opportunity to look through kit catalogs and bring them home for you to view. If cost is a factor, scholarships are available, please send a note with your child’s order.
Projects that are ordered through the school have changed. There is still a variety, but some items are no longer available. Some great project ideas are aprons, felt animals, cartoon pillows, and back sacks.
If your child has had experience sewing and would like to choose a more difficult project or more than two projects, please have them discuss this with me. All projects need my approval before they are purchased.
All kit orders and money must be turned in by FRIDAY, February 13th
Please make checks payable to Dillon Middle School.
Please take a moment to look at the attached supply list. Again if your child needs a scholarship for any of these items or projects, just let me know.
Please contact me at school (683-2368) or mblake@dillonelem.k12.mt.us if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Meagan Blake
