6th Grade Art 

Description:

This is a yearlong class that rotates every other day for 90 days.  Content is derived from the disciplines of art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetic awareness. Primary focus will be placed on developing and expanding art skills, techniques, concepts and vocabulary using the Elements of Art-line, shape, texture, value, color, and space.  Students will both individually and collaboratively produce two-dimensional and three-dimensional art using various mediums including drawing, painting, oil pastel, and collage. 

                                                                                                                                     

Goals: Students will

·         Develop an understanding of the Elements of Art-line, shape, texture, value, color and space.  What makes them effective or not effective and recognize what elements work in their art.

·        Choose and evaluate a variety of subject matter, symbols, and ideas. 

·        Demonstrate skill growth and develop techniques to communicate ideas, experiences and       meaning.

·        Make connections between visual arts in relation to world around them-past to present.

7th Grade

Primary focus will be placed on refining art skills, techniques, concepts and vocabulary using the Elements of Art-line, shape, texture, value, color, and space as well as developing an understanding of the Principles of Design-harmony, variety, contrast, movement, balance and dominance.  Students will both individually and collaboratively produce two-dimensional and three-dimensional art using various mediums including drawing, watercolor, clay, sculpture, and block printing. 

 

Goals: Students will

·         Know the Elements of Art-line, shape, texture, value, color and space, and develop an understanding of the Principles of Design-harmony, variety, contrast, movement, balance and dominance.  What makes them effective or not effective and recognize what elements and principles work in their art.

7th Grade Art Extension 

Description:

This is a quarterly course, every day for 45 days.  Primary focus will be placed on refining art skills to individually and collaboratively produce two-dimensional and three-dimensional art using a variety of media and techniques of both classic and modern artists 

 

Goals: Students will

·   Use a variety of media and techniques to produce projects inspired by famous art and artists.

·   Explore themes and ideas from a variety of artists and their work.

·   Demonstrate skill growth and refine techniques to communicate ideas, experiences and meaning.

·   Make connections between visual arts in relation to world around them-past to present.
