CNR Overhead Bridge (GWP 3054-11-00)
Constructed in 1954, the CNR Overhead Bridge carries Highway 401 traffic over a single rail line which runs from London to Port Stanley. The bridge is recommended for replacement because of its deteriorated condition.
Pond Mills Road Bridge (GWP 3054-11-00)
The Pond Mills Bridge is currently recommended for replacement to address operational needs and accommodate future widening of Highway 401.
Tributary of Murray Drain Culvert (GWP 3054-11-00)
Constructed in 1952, this culvert has previously been extended to accommodate past Highway 401 widening projects and is now recommended for replacement to address operational needs.
Highway 401 and Structure Replacement Summary:
As documented in the Transportation Environmental Study Report for the project (available for download below) the preferred plan for replacements includes:
- Raising the profile of Highway 401 and widening approach embankments to accommodate bridge and culvert replacements
- Temporary long duration lane closures on Highway 401
- Temporary short duration ramp closures at Highway 401/Exeter Road off-ramp and Highbury Avenue' Highway 401 westbound on-ramp (S-W ramp)
- Temporary long duration ramp closures at Highway 401/Highbury Avenue eastbound on and off-ramps (W-N/S and N-E ramps)
- Full closure of Pond Mills Road for up to a total of 18 months (up to six months each year of construction)
Project Status
Project Status
A Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) was prepared for the project following MTO's Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000). The project was completed as a Group "B" undertaking. The TESR was made available for a 30-day public review period from August 2, 2017 to September 1, 2017 as outlined in the Notice of Completion (available for download below). The TESR was considered "cleared" on September 3, 2017 and Clearance for the project to proceed to detail design was issued in September 2017.
