dANIELA mERCANTE

Headmistress

My name is Daniela Mercante, I’m fifty years, I’m married ad we have two children. I’ve been a primary school teacher for twentyseven years and for four years I’m a school manager. That of the head teacher is today the least underwood among the educational professions. But my studieson leadership for learning helped me to understand what is the real challenge for a manager: it is to coltivate the professional capital of one's own educational community, taking care of learning environments in a context of high technological density. With a nautical metaphore, we can indicate the path of transition: from the coastal cabotage of the admirals of the routine, to the offshore sailing of the discoverers of new continents, to the guidance of independent schools that give up their moorings and take off. And our Erasmus programs are very good oppotunities for that!

Daniela Iapichino

Coordinator Erasmus+

I teach English at the lower Secondary school “Portella della Ginestra” in Vittoria. At the beginning of my career I have taught in the primary school and since that time I've always been interested in "Intercultural" projects. I did myself an exchange just between teachers, I attended some seminars abroad through the previous Erasmus programmes, and I was the contact teacher of a Comenius Assistantship project and now the Coordinator of a KA229. At the moment different Erasmus projects are running in our institution giving us the chance to enrich our personal and professional development. I really believe in intercultural themes and European educational matters, as they represent a tool to teach tolerance, to overcome every kind of prejudice, to preserve our diversity as a richness and build an open minded attitude towards the others, that is “working for a better world”!
