Whether at the logs, in the unit, walking around camp, or hiking, campers want Elves to sing.
Be Enthusiastic! If you start feeling goofy, good for you! The more enthusiastic you are, the more enthusiastic the girls will be as well!
Do not sing any songs that poke fun at anyone or any ethnicity.
If you have a questionable song, check with your directors before singing it.
Know the song (words & tune).
Have fun with it & be enthusiastic!
Be Clear, Loud, & Slow (you are teaching songs to campers, not performing).
Vary the types of songs you sing – active ones, sitting down ones, rounds, etc.
Encourage everyone to participate.
Sing a line and have them repeat it back to you .
Know the song before you teach it.
First sing it all the way through once .
Sing a line & have them repeat it back to you.
Sing together at the end (slow enough if the words are complex for both adults and girls to hear it well).
Tips:
Count off “1-2-3 begin” before singing to keep the group together.
Do not duplicate during the week, ask other elves to keep simpler songs for Brownie units.
Daytime Taps should be sung at Flag Down.
There is no list of “banned” songs, however, some Session directors object to various songs for various reasons.
Check with your directors for their list of songs that are not allowed at their session.
