String Ensemble explores music via string instruments, namely the Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. We take part in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation and have consistently achieved excellent results. Our conductor, Ms Marietta Ku, is a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and has been with us since the CCA’s inception in 1994.
Other than SYF, we hold our biannual concert, Spirit of Strings, with past batches of alumni too. In 2019, we also participated in a collaboration concert together with Nanjing No. 1 High School from China, DHS Symphonic Band and DHS Chinese Orchestra. This year, we celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a commemoration concert where we performed with our alumni, some of whom are from the first batch of students.
String Ensemble also offers members many opportunities to perform and share our passion for music beyond the school setting. We have participated in performances at the Esplanade Concourse, as well as numerous VIA performances at the Community Centres and Nursing Homes to engage people from all walks of life and contribute back to the society.
Through Strings Ensemble, students can look forward to honing their skills when playing in the ensemble, while understanding the importance of teamwork and communication between members and sections. Students can also look forward to the sectionals that we hold on a regular basis, which gives them the opportunity to work with their peers and instructor, allowing them to learn from each other and improve as a section. Performances aside, we hold annual camps with recreational activities to bond with fellow members.
