Since the establishment of Chinese Orchestra in 1973, the orchestra has been very active in the performance scene both locally and abroad. It has held successful public concerts during several overseas immersion trips to destinations like Beijing (2011), Hangzhou / Nantong (2013), Xiamen / Gulangyu (2015), Penang (2017), Hainan (2019) and Zhuhai (2024). The orchestra has also garnered reputation by achieving top scores at the biennial SYF Arts Presentation, and from the positive reviews received for the performances staged.
Students can look forward to a holistic learning experience. Not only can they hone their instrumental skills as well as perform in concerts both locally and abroad, there are also ample opportunities for them to learn important soft skills such as teamwork and coordination, leadership and events planning. Students can also look forward to recreational and team-bonding activities during our leisure camps.
Through hard work and the guidance from our instructors and teachers, many DHSCO members who started out with no musical skills eventually blossomed in the orchestra. Beyond musical proficiency, DHSCO is committed to the school vision of developing students into leaders of honour - leaders with sound values, a strong work ethic and more importantly the commitment to serve the larger community. The discipline and
strong work ethic of our members is often complimented by the public, allowing DHSCO to stand out from other student orchestras.
(Special note: DHSCO incorporates the Guzheng Ensemble)
