Sixth Grade Policies

2019-2020 - School Year

Ms. Doose and Ms. Balagtas

Behavioral Expectations:

As a sixth grade team, we expect our students to be kind, respectful, and responsible learners here at Pierce Downer. Students will be held accountable and consequences will be determined and based on teacher’s discretion.

* Attached is an example of the Pierce Downer Referral Form *

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences:

We are asking that your child accompany you at each conference. His/her completed goals, working portfolio, and personal input will serve as the basis for a productive conference. If you need to meet with one of us in confidence, please contact us at school or by email.

Individual Portfolios:

One way students take ownership for their learning is through a working portfolio. Each student will be in charge of a working portfolio throughout the year by setting pre quarter goals for each subject and collecting work samples to evaluate and measure growth in learning.

Take Home Binder:

Our way of communicating to you will be through our Take Home binders. They will be sent home EVERY DAY with graded papers from the previous week, informative letters, and important dates. Please take a few minutes to look through this binder and discuss with your child how school is progressing overall. Feel free to send notes or anything important that needs to be given to the teacher. We are asking you to sign and return any documents the following day to verify that the information has been received.

Homework Policy:

  1. Homework is to be done to the best of the student’s ability in a neat and legible manner.
  2. Students with late homework will stay after school on the given due date to work on the assignment (unless other arrangements are made). If necessary, teachers may arrange for students to complete homework during recess.
  3. Late or missing work is due no later than the test or quarter-end (as applicable).
  4. Excessive late work or missing assignments will result in a parent-teacher-student conference and/or loss of quarterly celebration.
  5. Band, Choir, and Orchestra are held during class time. Children are NOT excused from class assignments while attending these outside activities.
