Will the slides be sent after the event?
If presenters provide permission to share slides (this is optional), we will share them with participants.
Can I join online?
This is an in-person event only.
Is there a conference fee for attendance?
No, attendance is free of charge.
Will food and drink be provided?
Yes, refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
If I apply to present, do I need to register as a participant too?
No. If you are successful in your application to present, you will have automatic access to the rest of the conference. If you are unsuccessful, you will automatically be considered as interested in attending.
If I am presenting, will I need to submit a paper?
No, not in the same sense as would commonly be the case for purely academic conferences. An abstract will be provided to inform attendees of the contents of your presentation.
Will I receive a confirmation email of my registration?
No. By successfully completing the registration form, you will view a landing page telling you that your response has been recorded. This is your confirmation.
What are DfT's criteria for selecting participants in case of over-subscription?
In the event that the conference is oversubscribed we will prioritise participants that reflect a broad mix from academia, industry, and government. For example, if four people from the same organisation sign up then we will prioritise offering at least one of the places to someone from another organisation so they can be represented at the event. Those who applied for the earlier date (before the conference was postponed) will not be given preferential treatment.
Who will be attending the conference?
Attendees at the conference will predominately be a technical audience who build or understand data science/AI across transport (industry, academia and government). Otherwise, they will be senior policy or delivery - i.e. those that can make data science ideas happen in their organisation.
What time will the conference start and finish?
This is subject to the final agenda, but we intend the conference to welcome arrivals from 9am, with a Welcome Address at 10am and running until 6pm.
Was there a separate two-day AI Hackathon in Transport event?
Yes! We also had our two-day AI Hackathon in Transport event on 15-16 May. In partnership with Google Cloud, and PA Consulting, DfT’s pioneering event brought together data scientists, engineers, and innovators from across transport and beyond to collaborate on solving challenges in crucial areas such as passenger experience, sustainability and multi-modal transportation across the UK. The hackathon took place on 15-16 May at Google’s Central St. Giles offices in London. Participants also received support and training from Google and PA AI experts via in person and remote events, both before and during the hack.
