School Start/End Times

School begins at 8:30am and ends at 3:20pm. Our first bell will ring at 8:25am each morning, which will allow students to begin moving to their classrooms. ALL half-days dismiss at 11:42am.

Our drop off car line will begin at 8:10 each morning. Please see additional information in this newsletter and on our school website for procedures and guidelines for the drop off and pickup line.

Students who arrive after 8:30am, or after the car line closes, will need to come to the main office to sign in. Please call the office to report any absences or tardies at 668-3547. This line is open 24/7, so you are welcome to leave a message there any time of day or night.

It is important to report if your student will be arriving late to school, especially if you know in advance.

Picture Day is Coming!

School portraits are scheduled for  Wednesday September 9th

ALL ORDERS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE.

Directions:

Simply search for your student by name.  You can type either their first or last name and you will see student names pop up.  If you have multiple students please submit separate orders for each child.  If you do not see your students name, choose "New Person" and add their information then click the "prepay for photos button"
You DO NOT need to send the printed receipt to school. We will already have a record of your payment!

Help wanted!

We need support staff subs! If you are interested in helping support our students in the lunchroom, at recess, or as a paraprofessional, please stop by central office to apply! 

A paraprofessional sub would likely be for the whole school day, recess is from 9:50am-2:40pm, and lunch runs from 10:50am-1:05pm. 

Smart Watches and Devices-

Our district policy says "students may not use cell phones or other wireless communication devices, including smart watches, smart glasses, and similar devices, during instructional time."

Students who have a smart watch or device on during school and are distracted by it may be asked to place the device in their backpack or with their teacher until the end of the school day. Please do not use a student device to communicate end of day plans- that must be communicated with the office and teacher.

Allergy Alert- No Nuts!

Schavey Road implements a "no nut" policy due to life threatening allergies.  Do not send your student to school with any snacks or meals that include nuts, including peanut butter.  If a student does bring a snack or lunch to school that contains nuts, they will be given an alternative to enjoy and a note will come home to request a different food in the future. Thank you for helping keep all our students safe!

Medication Forms

In order for our staff to administer any type of medication at school, you must submit a completed District Medication Form to our main office. Prescription medication must be in the original container accompanied by a medication form with a doctor's signature. Please be sure that any over the counter medication is in its' original container and is accompanied by a medication form with parent signature. Please communicate with your student's teachers if there will be medication administered at school, or if there are any other health-related concerns.

Join the PTA!

The PTA is more than just events—it’s a way to help support our students, staff, and schools throughout the year. PTA members can vote on funding and grant requests, help shape PTA decisions, and serve in chair or leadership roles. Membership is $10 for an individual, $18 for a dual membership, or $7 for staff. Everyone is welcome at our general meetings, whether you’re a member or not!

Monster Mash
Saturday, October 24
Herbison Woods Elementary

Get ready for a frightfully fun evening at our free, family-friendly Monster Mash! Join us for dancing, games, a photo booth, and more. Costumes are encouraged but not required—come as you are or dress to impress!

 Food and drinks will be available for purchase, so come hungry!

 Admission is free, but we kindly ask families to bring a donation of individually wrapped, nut-free snacks to help stock our school snack closets for teachers to use in their classrooms.

Drop Off and Pick Up Car Lines

Students being dropped off may enter the building at 8:10am. Please DO NOT drop students off prior to this time, as we do not have staff available to supervise students until then. Keep your student in the car with you until staff opens the doors, do not send your student to wait at the door.  Students must remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings. Please refer to our drop off and pick up procedures which can be found on our website, or by clicking here. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up are very busy times during our day. To ensure the safety of all our students, there are specific procedures for drop off and pick up. We appreciate your patience and understanding as many begin to adjust to new routines and schedules as we start the school year. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe at Schavey Road!

Parking Lot Procedures

Our parking lot is quite an adventure before and after school. I ask that you please be patient and follow all traffic procedures that we have established to help with parking and traffic flow. These procedures are posted on our Schavey website. It is our goal to keep traffic moving at a steady pace in our drop off and pick up line. 

When using the drop off/pick up lane, please be sure to pull as far forward to the crosswalk as possible before letting your student exit the car. Students must exit on the passenger side and use the sidewalk to walk to the main entrance. To help keep the line moving, we ask that you say your good-byes in the car and allow your student to exit your vehicle independently if possible. Many parents help unbuckle their child when they are in the "next up" portion of the line. School staff will be available to assist students in and out of cars safely- please DO NOT exit your vehicle as this holds the line longer than waiting for staff to assist. Please be sure to put your student's first and last name as they are used to hearing it on the sign you keep in your car and display on the visor during pickup. This will help us locate students quickly to get them to their cars. We will have signs available during open house if you do not wish to make your own.
