Schavey Road Elementary is excited to announce our Read-A-Thon fundraiser. We are again partnering with Read-A-Thon.com to help promote March is Reading Month and to raise money for our school. The Read-A-Thon fundraiser makes it easy for you and your child to get family and friends excited to support your child’s reading development as well as raising money for our school.
We, as a school, need to be creative and resourceful so that we can provide excellent educational experiences for our students. We need your help with this. We understand that there are many district related fundraisers that you are asked to participate in and support throughout the year, this is the one fundraiser that solely supports Schavey Road Elementary. Please know that any support you can provide for this fundraiser is greatly appreciated by the staff at Schavey!
We also wanted to make you aware that businesses have the opportunity to be featured on every Schavey Road Elementary student's Read-A-Thon webpage. If you have family or friends who are business owners, please feel free to share the link with them so that they can take advantage of the benefits of donating as a business rather than as an individual.
Here’s how the program will work:
-On Friday, February 27th, your child will bring home an easy to follow Read-A-Thon sign-up sheet.
-When you receive this information, follow the easy step by step directions to sign your child up online. Our goal is to have every student signed up by Friday, March 6th.
-Once your child is signed up on the Read-A-Thon website, share the link with family and friends via email, Facebook, twitter, etc.
-Help us reach our school-wide goal of $20,000 and 2,600 hours of reading in 4 weeks! To reach this goal each classroom must average $1,000 in donations.
Thank you for all you do to support your child’s learning and to support us as educators! We are extremely excited about this fundraiser and are hoping to get every child to participate!
Please mark your calendar that Friday, April 10 (the week we return from spring break) will be a half-day of school for just current Schavey students. We'll dismiss all Y5, Kindergarten, and First Grade students at 11:42am so that staff can spend the afternoon doing kindergarten roundup for our new arrivals this coming fall.
All other buildings in the district will run their regular full day schedule this day. This is only for Schavey Road.
If you have or know someone with an incoming kindergarten student, please encourage them to keep an eye on our district website and social media for information on signing up for a roundup slot!
Calling our office as soon as you know your child will need to miss school helps us update our records and lets you avoid getting a confirmation phone call from us. Please call and report all absences or tardies at 668-3547.
Just a reminder that Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Crouch are both out on maternity leave. To help our substitutes in the car line, please make sure that you have a sign in your front window with your child's name printed in large letters so it can be easily read. This will help us move efficiently through the line.
Follow the QR code or go to ybpay.lifetouch.com to order your yearbook!
Schavey Road implements a "no nut" policy due to life threatening allergies. Please do not send your student to school with any snacks or meals that include nuts, including peanut butter. If a student does bring a snack or lunch to school that contains nuts, they will be given an alternative to enjoy and a note will come home to request a different food in the future. Thank you for helping keep all our students safe!
Please make sure to continue sending snow gear with your student! Even on days with less/no snow coverage, we'll have students put on their gear when it's wet out so that they can get their snow pants wet rather than their actual pants.
We're at an age and time of year where students are frequently coming to the office to change, either from an accident in the bathroom or from playing in the snow/mud at recess. If you could please make sure your child has a change of clothes (pants, shirt, socks, and underwear) in their backpack, that would help make things much easier on both your student and school staff when they need to change.
If your child does end up borrowing school clothes, we would very much appreciate you washing and returning them to us so that they are available for another child in need.
We are currently low on girls leggings and boys sweatpants, sizes 5-8, so any donations would be appreciated!
Please be sure to check the hot lunch choice each day and the secondary choice for the week (sunbutter will always be our third option). We find that things go much smoother when students are signed up for a choice that features foods they like and will reliably want to eat. Thank you!
Please check out this awesome resource from our Dean of Students, Mrs. Cochrane!
Problem Solving Visual
Students have been using our school-wide problem solving visual (see below). We read "Hammerhead's Recess Challenge", reviewed steps we can take to calm our bodies when we have a big feeling and discussed words we can use to solve problems with peers.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, are in need of any resources and/or you need anything at all. I'm looking forward to a great school year with all of our Schavey families!
