Here is our current newsletter from Schavey Road Elementary
Dear Schavey Road Families,
I am so excited to welcome you to Schavey Road Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year! I hope that you had a fun and relaxing summer.
This school year, SRE will be home to two classes of young fives, nine kindergarten classrooms, and nine first grade classrooms. I can't wait to see the incredible things our students achieve as they learn and grow this year!
Our staff is honored that you have entrusted your student's education to us. It is our goal to create a positive, safe, and enriching learning environment that engages all students to achieve at their highest level of success. We are dedicated to building a safe, compassionate learning community for our students and we look forward to working with you this year to ensure that our shared goals are achieved.
Class placements will be made available in Infinite Campus on Friday, August 14. You will also be receiving information directly from your student's teacher in the following days. For information on how to set up or access your Infinite Campus account, you can visit this tutorial video, or follow the links on our Parent Links page. If you are unable to access these, please contact our district office at 668-3000.
The first day of school is Monday, August 24. This is a half-day for ALL students, and dismissal will be at 11:42am. The second day of school (Tuesday, August 25) will be a half-day for ONLY KINDERGARTEN/YOUNG FIVES students, to help support their transition to school. Regular school start and end times are listed below.
We will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, August 19th from 5-6pm. This is a good opportunity for your child to meet their teacher and see their classroom.
The school will be open for self-guided tours on Thursday, August 20th from 8am-5pm and Friday, August 21st from 8am-12pm. Classrooms will not be available during these times, as teachers are preparing for the new year, but you and your student are welcome to practice entering and walking to their room, finding their specials classes, and getting comfortable with the building layout.
Starting Monday, August 10, our school office will be open Monday-Friday, and can be reached at 668-3500. You are also welcome to visit if you have questions as we prepare for another wonderful school year at Schavey Road!

Our drop off car line will begin at 8:10 each morning. Please see additional information in this newsletter and on our school website for procedures and guidelines for the drop off and pickup line.
Students who arrive after 8:30am, or after the car line closes, will need to come to the main office to sign in. Please call the office to report any absences or tardies at 668-3547. This line is open 24/7, so you are welcome to leave a message there any time of day or night.
It is important to report if your student will be arriving late to school, especially if you know in advance.
In an effort to support our transition to school and foster independence, we ask that parents/guardians who are planning on bringing their child to school on the first day say their goodbyes to their child outside the school building and allow them to independently walk to their classroom with our school staff. During the first week of school we will have many school staff available to help students to their classroom if they need support. Hallways are color-coded as well, to help students remember which way to go.
We have found that students are able to transition to school with more success when given the opportunity to be independent right from the start. Although it is normal for students to experience some anxiety about the first days of school, if you feel that your child is experiencing significant stress, please let us know. We can provide additional supports as needed to help all students make as positive a transition as possible. If your child is riding the bus to school, staff will meet them as they get off the bus and direct them to their classrooms. You should be receiving transportation information soon regarding your student's bus number and pick up/drop off times.
If your student's teacher recommends individual school supplies or classroom donations, these will be communicated to you by the teacher soon. There is a general supply list posted on our website. Please contact our main office if you would like to be connected with resources to acquire free school supplies.
Schavey Road implements a "no nut" policy due to life threatening allergies. Do not send your student to school with any snacks or meals that include nuts, including peanut butter. If a student does bring a snack or lunch to school that contains nuts, they will be given an alternative to enjoy and a note will come home to request a different food in the future. Thank you for helping keep all our students safe!
In order for our staff to administer any type of medication at school, you must submit a completed District Medication Form to our main office. Prescription medication must be in the original container accompanied by a medication form with a doctor's signature. Please be sure that any over the counter medication is in its' original container and is accompanied by a medication form with parent signature. Please communicate with your student's teachers if there will be medication administered at school, or if there are any other health-related concerns.
Medication and other medical forms can be found on our district website, located here.
We have a colored dot system that helps students find their classrooms in the building, and allows for school staff to quickly identify each student's teacher. Our hallways are color coded (purple, blue, and green), and each teacher has an assigned number. In the mail, your student will be recieving their color/number tag that needs to be attached to their backpack. It is helpful to put their name on the back of the dot in case it falls off. You can also help your student find their classroom during the self-guided tours by finding their color coded hallway and then their correct classroom. Each classroom will have a large circle with color/number posted on the door. This system works wonderfully for our students and allows for them to gain independence right from the start of school.
Students being dropped off may enter the building at 8:10am. Please DO NOT drop students off prior to this time, as we do not have staff available to supervise students until then. Keep your student in the car with you until staff opens the doors, do not send your student to wait at the door. Students must remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings. Please refer to our drop off and pick up procedures which can be found on our website, or by clicking here. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up are very busy times during our day. To ensure the safety of all our students, there are specific procedures for drop off and pick up. We appreciate your patience and understanding as many begin to adjust to new routines and schedules as we start the school year. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe at Schavey Road!
Our parking lot is quite an adventure before and after school. I ask that you please be patient and follow all traffic procedures that we have established to help with parking and traffic flow. These procedures are posted on our Schavey website. It is our goal to keep traffic moving at a steady pace in our drop off and pick up line.
When using the drop off/pick up lane, please be sure to pull as far forward to the crosswalk as possible before letting your student exit the car. Students must exit on the passenger side and use the sidewalk to walk to the main entrance. To help keep the line moving, we ask that you say your good-byes in the car and allow your student to exit your vehicle independently if possible. Many parents help unbuckle their child when they are in the "next up" portion of the line. School staff will be available to assist students in and out of cars safely- please DO NOT exit your vehicle as this holds the line longer than waiting for staff to assist. Please be sure to put your student's first and last name as they are used to hearing it on the sign you keep in your car and display on the visor during pickup. This will help us locate students quickly to get them to their cars. We will have signs available during open house if you do not wish to make your own.
