CEN's Grading Policy + Guidelines is informed by the work of Joe Feldman in Grading for Equity (2018) as well as other equity-focused education practitioners.Â
As an organization committed to being child-centered, transformative, and Anti-Racist, we believe that:
the purpose of grading is to provide feedback on learning
grading should be a reflection of learned academic skills, excluding teachers' implicit bias or environmental factors
grading should support a growth mindset, giving students opportunities to revise work to show new learning
grading practices must be mathematically sound and accurate
CEN's Grading Policy + Guidelines were last updated in August 2022.
Questions should be directed to Instructional Coaches or Principals.
